About this Book
Misha Kahana, a Polish-born Jewish boy, never dreamt that he'd spend the better part of his childhood...on and off trains.
His journey begins on a prisoners' train making its way towards Russia. Misha is sick and weak, and the train driver somehow succeeds in obtaining permits for his family to remain in Chapayevsky for two weeks, to allow him to recover.
The family's next stop is in freezing cold Tokoshi, where they are met with shocking accommodations. Relying on his medical skills and a hefty dose of courage, Misha's father manages to relocate his family to Saragayvka, but the new place poses a new challenge for Misha: Peter, the friendly non-Jewish neighbor, whose friendship is alluring but far from Misha's father's dreams for his son.
Two years pass, and Misha finds himself all alone in the world, escaping from a traumatizing encounter with Peter's father, he somehow makes his way back to the train driver's home. But there too, his journey is far from over.
Fleeing from the anti-Semitic station manager, Misha and his new friends once again take a train - this time to Szczecin, Poland, Misha's birthplace.
One dark night, they climb onto a small boat and cross the border to Germany, from where they will make their way cramped inside empty carts on a Belgian truck to the border. When they finally reach Marseilles in France, Misha receives a mysterious letter.
Join Misha on his long, long, challenging filled journey. Laugh and cry as you discover, together with him, Hashem's astounding Hashgachah in every twist and turn.
